Parsley is a project to develop a free, open-source
accounting system for small and very small businesses,
community groups and individuals.
It will be a multi-user web application to make it
easy to employ book-keepers working remotely, and will
enable - but not enforce -
open-book accounting
Sponsor Parsley
We are currently looking for partners, contributors
and sponsors.
Platosys Needs Partners for Parsley
If you are a Java programmer with time on your hands, or an organisation employing Java programmers
with time on their hands, you could do worse than join the Parsley project on Sourceforge.net. We need all
the help we can get!
Alternatively, or in addition, you cold always just:
Sponsor the Parsley Project
Parsley depends on sponsors to continue its development. Without sponsorship, its
developers can only work in their spare time and for free; with sponsors, they get paid for
their work on the project.
Why it's worth sponsoring Parsley
If you run a small business, and/or you are an accountant or a book-keeper who provides
services to small businesses, Parsley will make your life easier - even if you usually
use Sage! The competition from Parsley will improve Sage.
What you get from sponsorship
-
Influence
-
He who pays the piper etc... There's a private parsley-sponsors mailing list, open only
to sponsors; and the developers will pay more attention to suggestions
there than anywhere else.
-
Kudos (and advertising!)
-
Your name will appear on the list of sponsors - and we'll link through to your website.
We'll put up your logo as well. Give us enough money, and we'll do anything - but it
will take quite a lot to get us to compromise on our principles of openness.
A developer for a day - or a module for ever
You can sponsor a developer to work for a day or more, leaving us to decide the priorities - which,
naturally, we'd prefer - or you can sponsor work to be directed on particular modules.
Clients
We can devote our resources specifically to your projects.
What we can do
Technically, we are Java web application developers, but we have a much
broader commercial outlook than the title suggests. We know about:
- business, in the broadest sense, and how it is changing in a networked world
- intellectual property - specifically copyright, but also
patents, trade marks, etc, and how best to exploit it in the open economy
- technology, from mobile communications to Java web frameworks
We would be interested in bringing this bundle of expertise to bear on your project,
and to address specific tasks - from reporting on its feasibility to writing the actual
application code.

Edward Barrow
Platosys Technology is Edward Barrow
Edward is a self-taught computer programmer whose skills include the Java programming language,
web-design using xhtml and css, Ajax and Javascript, XML and XSLT, and SQL. A self-confessed nerd, he has
used the GNU/Linux operating system for over ten years, and exclusively in the third millennium.
Education
Edward graduated with third-class honours from Cambridge University in 1978, where he read
Natural Sciences and Land Economy. He thinks things might have been rather different had he
read Computer Sciences there, but as it was he didn't discover his interest in, and aptitude for,
technology until later in life.
Career
His primary career has been in copyright and intellectual property, and it was the challenges to
copyright posed by new technology that spurred his interest in the digital world.
He remains connected to developments in copyright and licensing practice, supports
the rights of creators towards their creations and advocates fair licensing, including
voluntary collective licensing.
Challenges
Software design and cutting code demands mental agility, and the brain, like any other muscle,
needs exercise if it is to avoid decay. Now into his sixth decade, Edward keeps mentally fit by
coding every day, and tries to keep physically fit by cycling every day.
